REGION INFORMATION
The only permanent river, the Okavango, flows into a delta in the north west, forming marshes that are rich in wildlife.
Ancient dry riverbeds, also called omuramba provide standing pools of water during the rainy season. The Kalahari Basin
covers over 2,500,000 square kilometres (970,000 sq mi) extending farther into Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa.
The San people have lived in the Kalahari for 20,000 years as hunter-gatherers. The San get most of their water
requirements from plant roots and desert melons. The San live in huts built from local materials.
GREEN KALAHARI
Akoerabis - the place of great noise. Orange River thunders over a 56 metre high rock face into a deep granite bowl.Tours
of vineyards are on offer, and during harvest season the meticulous task of handling export grapes is on show. One of
the 7 wonders of Southern Africa as proclaimed by Hedley Chilvers 1929. Winemakers and grape farmers can
be met Augrabies Flat Rock Lizard
